Area 7 Games Day 28 Aug'09

Area 7 games day @ Sengkang Secondary School.

Champion School: SJC!

Good job SJC!

That day was on a Friday; our release time on Friday is at 12.30pm. Immediately after school, we went to look for the physical education teacher to get the netball from them to be use for our captain ball game as you might not know that our unit is hosting captain ball game. Some of the others brought vanguard sheets and markers. After that, we rushed to the nearby shopping mall, Rivervale Mall to buy first aid plasters and bandages for the tug of war people. As we had to reach the hosting venue school, Seng Kang Secondary school by 1.20pm we had no choice but to cab to there.

There were many varieties of games that we can choose from, from Sudoku to Captain Ball. We can any one of the games that we were good in or the game that we had the most interest in.

Both Rui Wen and I picked a game called “Pouring water relay”. This name might sounds childish to some but this game requires lots of teamwork effort. The hosting school for this game was Seng Kang Secondary school. How is this game played? There will be two buckets provided at the starting and ending line, the bucket at the starting line will be filled with water and the one at the ending line will be empty. A group of eight cadets will stand in a line. The first person at the starting line will have to scoop up the water and fill up the plastic cup provided. After the first person scoop up the water, he or she had to pour to the second person in line and vice versa. The last person in the line will have to pour the water into the empty bucket and this procedure continues. Each game has a time frame of five minutes. The top six schools that collected the most water will get into the semi finals round and try to compete for the top three placing. Although we did not get into the top six, this is instead a good experience for us; it bonds us with our fellow juniors together. This game also promotes teamwork and team spirit.

We also send in two teams for Sudoku. One of teams emerged the first! This was a memorable achievement as there were strong competitors from Raffles’ Girls School.

For tug of war event, we faced fierce competition from schools like Nan Chiau High School and Punggol Secondary School. However, we still managed to get second. Our whole unit is proud of this achievement as this proved that girls’ school have the same capability as a mixed school. We managed to get second due to the never ending determination and endurance from the group of eight members of tug of war. Juniors and seniors also cheered on and pushed the team on. It is instead heart-warming to see the spirit of the unit.

During the prize giving ceremony, all the people from the unit was anxious and tensed to know the results. When the emcee announced that our unit got overall champion, high pitch screaming filled the air. Those schools that were sitting near us were covering their ears as our screaming and excitement were considered too much for them to accept. One of the unique characteristics of our unit is our never ending spirit. Other achievements include getting second for “Catch me” game. Although we make a lot of mistakes when we hosted the captain ball game, we find that making mistakes is the only way that we learn; only by learning our mistakes then we can improve and bring the unit to greater heights!
